London Youth Games 2012
Every year, over 20,000 young people from the 32 London boroughs and the City of London compete in over 30 different sports competitions that make up the London Youth Games. The results from all the different sports competitions are added together and the winning Borough wins the Jubilee Trophy.
The London Youth Games commenced in 1977 as part of The Queen's Silver Jubilee Celebrations and the Games continue to provide competitive sporting opportunities for young Londoners representing the borough they live or go to school in.
The main games are made up of over 30 sports and the competition is open to those aged between 11 and 18. The competition begins in February with the cricket cup and finishes with finals at Crystal Palace. You can find out all about the games by watching the London Youth Games promotional video, which features patron - and England footballer - Rachel Hankey.

Cross country 2011/12 results
On Saturday 19th November, 29 of the London boroughs sent cross country teams to Hampstead Heath, Parliament Hill, to compete in the first London Youth Games event of the year. This year's competition saw over 1500 young people compete for their boroughs in what has been the biggest entry to date in this event in the history of the Games.
The London Borough of Hackney sent thirty two runners to compete over six races across distances from 2km to 4.5km. This is the first time in over twenty years that Hackney has been represented in this event by so many runners, and you can read some information about how our runners fared here (Word, 32KB).
London Youth Games 2011 - Hackney make sporting history
Over 400 young people competed for the Borough of Hackney against the other 32 London boroughs in the London Youth Games 2011. Hackney was represented by 40 teams across 27 sports since November 2010, culminating in the finals weekend at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in July 2011.
The Borough of Hackney saw a big improvement from last year with a rise of seven places to 16th out of 33, which smashed the borough's previous highest ever position of 23rd, with 36 teams finishing in the top twenty, 18 of which finishing in the top ten.
There were team medals for the weightlifting, girls basketball, tennis and adapted rowing teams with forty one individual medals across disability athletics, kayak sprint, kayak, slalom, sailing, rowing, judo, trampoline, indoor rowing disability swimming, gymnastics and weightlifting.
There were many outstanding team and individual performances throughout the Games but the standout achievement came from the weightlifting team finishing 1st in London for the second year running and securing the title on a personal best for Omarie Mears in the boys event.
A huge well done to all participated and helped with this year's effort!
