Supported Living Schemes
What are Supported Living Schemes?
Supported Living Schemes (SLS) help vulnerable adults, aged 65 and older, to live as independently as possible in the community. Service users are responsible for their own tenancies, and receive an agreed level of care and housing-related support to meet their needs.
There are seven Supported Living Schemes (each a different size), with a total of 152 one-bedroom flats. Each scheme also has shared facilities, which include a kitchen, lounge and dining room as well as a large garden. There are also communal bathrooms, with adaptations and equipment where service users can receive extra help with bathing. Each scheme has easy access to major bus routes, is linked to a GP surgery, with close amenities and transport is provided to and from day centres.
The role of Supported Living Schemes is different to that of residential or nursing care. Our philosophy is one of enablement, which means we focus on maximizing your independence.
The schemes are provided by Hackney Council in partnership with registered social landlords: Newlon, Family Mosaic or ISHA (Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association).
How do I access this service?
The Access and Care Management team will make a referral on your behalf (see contact details on the right). If you wish to apply for the Supported Living Scheme, they will carry out an assessment to see if the service is suitable for your needs.
