Get Involved in Politics
The Council also makes sure that people can vote in local and national elections: if you are 16 or over, you should be on the electoral register. Everyone aged 18 or over can vote; you can even become a councillor if you want.
You and your family should receive a form every year, otherwise to register your details, contact Electoral Services on 020 8356 3232.
There are other ways to get involved with democracy in Hackney as well. Even if you are under 18 and can’t vote, if you go to a Hackney school you could join a School Council - ask your teacher for more information.
There is also the Youth Parliament and Neighbourhood Youth Forums where you can get involved in decision making across the Council and help to organise issue based events for young people. Contact Youth Services on 020 8820 7091.
Alternatively how about getting involved in the Youth Inspection Project and helping to develop good quality services which meet the needs of young people? Contact Louisa Riste on 020 8356 3786.
