Bridges and Bridges Strengthening

How do I report a bridge defect?

Examples of bridge defects include loose kerbing, coping stones and cables hanging from a bridge.

Please call the Hackney Service Centre on 020 8356 2897. Please provide the following details about the bridge, such as the location, a bridge ID, where on the bridge the problem is showing, what the problem actually is and your contact details.

If necessary, we will send our officers to the site.

Can you enhance a bridge?

Some voluntarily organisations often consider enhancing a bridge to improve the environment. This may include painting the bridge with murals.

Please put your proposal in writing and include the following details -

  • What you would like to be done?
  • How it will be funded and maintained?
  • When do you want to carry out the work?

You can email this information to the Hackney Service Centre at info@hackney.gov.uk

I would like to enquire about the disruption caused by works on a bridge.

Please contact the Hackney Service Centre on 020 8356 2897 with as much detail as possible about the bridge, such as location, the bridge ID and your contact details.

You will be contacted and advised on what will be done, what the work is for, how long will it last and when it will be expected to be completed.

I would like to notify you on the pigeon droppings all over the bridge. There are some pigeons caught in netting.

Please call the Hackney Service Centre on 020 8356 2897 with as much detail as possible about the bridge, such as the location, the bridge ID, and your contact details.

If the footway is covered with pigeon droppings we will refer your report to the cleansing team.

If pigeons are caught in netting, then it’s unlikely to be a bridge owned by London Borough of Hackney as London Borough of Hackney have removed all of their netting due to maintenance costs.

We will notify the relevant Government body of your enquiry and request the Government body resolve the problem.
