I would like to close a road (A temporary closure for a utility or personal reason)
If the road you are referring to is a red route, please contact the Transport of London, who deal with all red routes. www.tfl.gov.uk
If the road is an estate road, please contact your Neighbourhood estate manager.
If the road is a private road, or if the road is on the public highway (i.e. not in the one of the above groups) please contact the Hackney Service Centre on 020 8356 2897.
If the work is on a road classed as non sensitive and the work can be completed in less than 6 days, please call the Hackney Service Centre on 020 8356 2897 for an application form, complete it and send it in with a cheque to cover the cost (based on the number of days). On receipt you will be contacted and advised on when you can go ahead with the work and the road can be closed. Please provide us with your full name, address, contact details, what road(s) are to be closed and why, and when the closure is required. You be contacted by an officer to progress your request.
A site meeting will be required before the closure takes place and this will be organised when your request is received.
If the work is on a sensitive road or will take longer than 5 days, then a site meeting is required before anything can be agreed. You must provide us with your full name, address, contact details, what road(s) are to be closed and why, when the closure is required. You shall be contacted by our officer to arrange a site visit.

A road closure process can take up to 4-6 weeks.

How long will this road be closed for? Why has this road been closed?
I have a query about the works in road which has been closed or caused diversion.

If necessary we will send out officers to the site to carry out an inspection.
How can I extend my application?
Please refer to your guidelines notes issued with the initial application for when applying for closure.
You must follow the same process and initially applying for road closure.
Why didn’t you choose another route for the diversion?
Routes chosen for diversion routes are done with consideration and discussion with the emergency services and health and safety advice. The routes chosen are also been done with the need to reduce traffic congestion at a minimum and ensure bus routes etc, remain unaffected as much as possible.
