East London Line
Four new London Overground stations have opened in Hackney, bringing better connections and faster, more comfortable travel to the borough.
Shoreditch High Street, Hoxton, Haggerston and Dalston Junction stations on the extended East London line were opened on 27 April.
The line is running a ‘preview’ service of eight trains an hour from 7am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, to New Cross and New Cross Gate.
A full service of 12 trains an hour to West Croydon and Crystal Palace is due to start operating on 23 May.
The stations are served by brand new trains with more space, greater security, air conditioning and dedicated wheelchair bays.
Transport for London’s £1billion upgrade of the line will see the service extended north to Highbury and Islington by spring 2011 and further south to Clapham by 2012, with 16 trains an hour running through the borough by that time – equivalent to Tube frequency.
Wheels of fortune
More than a hundred cyclists made a pit stop in London Fields, E8, for free bike check-ups and advice.
The three-hour long event was manned by qualified mechanics who checked over 40 bikes, and gave out some top tips on cycle maintenance.

Cyclists were also able to take advantage of free bananas and museli bars, information on bike routes, free cycle training and details on a police anti-theft registration programme, which is aimed at reducing crime and boosting the numbers of stolen bikes returned to owners.
Subsidised bike accessories were also on offer on 25 March, including puncture repair kits, air pumps, lights and By reflectors.
