Volunteering FAQs
How can local people get involved in volunteering for 2012?
70,000 volunteers will be needed for the Games in 2012. The London 2012 Personal Best Volunteering Programme is training volunteers now. Personal Best helps local people learn new skills and get a nationally recognised qualification before starting to volunteer.
Over 130 Hackney residents have completed Personal Best. They have gone on to volunteer at events including the Shoreditch Festival and a visit by the International Olympic Committee to London.
The Council has new funding to invest in Personal Best volunteering training from the Learning and Skills Council and the London Development Agency.
Hackney's Personal Best trainees come from many different backgrounds: people not in work or in education, people with disabilities, older people, school leavers and excluded young people. Trainees receive help with job interviews, work placements and volunteering opportunities.
Hackney's own volunteering programme is boosting numbers of volunteers, and promoting local pride. A Youth Ambassador programme will start in late 2008.
