Air quality
How can I find out about the air quality in my area?
Visit the following website www.londonair.org.uk Alternatively, give Hackney Service Centre a call on 020 8356 4455.
What fuels can I use in my fire?
LBH has been a smoke controlled area since 1963 and only smokeless fuels and kindling can be used. You will need an exemption to use any other fuel - a list can be found on the website www.uksmokecontrolareas.co.uk/fuels which comprises of two lists - a) Smokeless fuels; b) List of appliances to burn other fuels.
Additional information is also available from: www.uksmokecontrolareas.co.uk
Can I have a bonfire?
Residents are allowed to have bonfires on their property. However, if the bonfire causes a nuisance to a neighbour then legal action may be taken by the Council. We would always encourage environmentally friendly alternatives to disposing of residential wastes such as recycling and garden wastes collections. For information on the collection of garden wastes by the Council, visit the Brown Bin page.
How do I report a problem about exhaust fumes?
Give the Hackney Service Centre a call on 020 8356 4455. You will be required to provide the following information:
- The vehicle registration number as no action can be taken without this.
- If it is a bus, provide the route and number.
Our team will carry out a search through the DVLA and take appropriate action.
