Demolitions Control and Advice
I wish to demolish a building
If a building is listed or situated in a Conservation Area, listed building consent and planning permission may be required for the demolition. You will also need to give us notice of your proposed demolition but not all demolition work requires a notice to be submitted to local authority building control.
A demolition notice does not need to be given for the following:
- Demolition of the internal part of a building, where the building is occupied and it is intended that it should continue to be occupied.
- The building to be demolished is less than 50 cubic metres.
- The building is a greenhouse, shed, conservatory or prefabricated garage that forms part of a larger building.
- The building is an agricultural building as defined in Schedule 5 to the Local Government Finance Act 1988, unless it is attached to a building that is itself not an agricultural building.
You can download a demolition notice application form from the Council website. Please fill it in and send it back to us at the address below with a site location plan.
