I am interested in buying a shop and would like some information on the land
Information on land is obtained by carrying out a Local Land Search.
I want a personal search on a property/piece of land
If you are a member of the public and wish to carry out your own search you must have conveyance knowledge about property searches, e.g. a Personal Search Agency. If you don’t have this knowledge we advise you to seek legal advice from a conveyance solicitor to ensure all aspects of the work are done correctly.
How do I know a property is within Hackney?
Please contact the Corporate Contact Centre on 020 8356 8295 and they will determine if the property or land you are enquiring about is in the London Borough of Hackney.
Can I make an appointment for land charges?
You will need to arrange a next day appointment at the earliest depending on Land Charges’ work schedule of the day. You will need to provide us with an Ordnance Survey map before you arrive. This can be faxed, emailed or brought into the office, address on the right.
A next day appointment booking is required at the earliest depending on Land Charges’ work schedule of the day. At the time of call you will need to provide your full name, full contact details including address and the full address of the property or land you are enquiring about. Please take into consideration, that when you do a personal search you will not receive a legal certificate from the department.
Official search
We advise customers to have an official search carried out. This is the only search document type the Council can provide which is legally binding to it.

How much does it cost?
Your requirements will determine the cost of the search. Please see below an outline of charges.
Register only LLC1= £11.00.
Full Search Register + CON29 Part 1= £91.00.
Extra parcel of Land= £10 each.
Optional EnquiriesCON29 Par 2= £25 each
Payments need to be made in cash or cheque with guarantee card made payable to London Borough of Hackney.
What are the opening times for the offices?
The offices are open from 9:30am – 4:30pm for personal searches but you must make an appointment before attending. Please refer to the above information.
