Green Power on Hackney Marshes
A wind turbine planned for Hackney Marshes will now not go ahead due to the difficult financial climate.
The decision follows a public consultation run by the council in late 2009 when residents said they thought a turbine on the Marshes would be a good way of generation green electricity.
Jules Pipe, Mayor of Hackney, said 'We're disappointed that the current economic situation has resulted in the banks making it more difficult for electricity generation companies to borrow the money they need to build such turbines. We will continue to explore options for generation green energy, and we hope to be able to revisit the idea of a turbine in the future.
