If you live in Hackney and are looking for a job or an apprenticeship, we can help you. Ways into work is a free recruitment service run by the Council. Whether you're just starting out, haven't worked for years or you want to change careers, we can advise you. We can find you the most suitable training and help you apply for the jobs that you want.
Our service is open to anyone who meets all of the following criteria:
- a Hackney resident with recourse to public funds (eligible to claim state benefits)
- unemployed or working less than 16 hours a week
- wants to work

Documents you need to provide at your appointment
You will need to provide the following original documents at your appointment:
- proof of ID and eligibility to work in the UK eg a valid passport or British birth certificate
- two proofs of address eg a bank statement, utility bill, council tax bill (at least one within the last three months)
- proof of national insurance number eg payslip, P45 or P60, letter from Jobcentre Plus, national insurance card
We help you into work through a number of ways. Everyone who registers with us gets an advisor who can meet with you, providing personalised support, flagging up jobs you might want to apply for and helping you with the application. We'll smarten up your CV and help you write cover letters that punch above their weight. Our interview skills workshops will coach you on the common questions in interviews and how to answer them.
In some cases, we can offer training which can give you exposure to the workplace or access to qualifications. By registering with Ways into work, you give yourself access to expert help and advice that can help you secure jobs.
Ways into work - employers
You can use Ways into work just as you would a recruitment agency. Our service is free, and we will fill your vacancies with Hackney residents.

Ways into work offers a free and flexible recruitment service, which can include:
- identifying the skills and experience required for your staff
- planning a recruitment timeline
- attracting and screening potential applicants
- providing bespoke, retail-specific training
- submitting CVs of suitable candidates to you
- running assessment and interview sessions
- providing ongoing in-work support
