With just days to go before the start of the East End Film Festival (19 to 26 April) it's still not too late to book a seat in the front row!

The festival will open with a star studded world premiere, With Gilbert & George, in which renowned artists Gilbert Proesch and George Passmore star in the story of their lives.

The closing night gala at the Rio in Dalston will be just as spectacular, with a sneak preview of the highly anticipated, Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten. The film, which is not due for official release until May, looks at the front man of one of the world's best known bands, The Clash. Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten

Top quality films and events

Along with world and UK premieres, there's a whole host of other top quality films and events that will take place throughout the week. Seven short films funded by the Tower Hamlets and Hackney Production scheme will be screened on Monday 23 April at Rich Mix, Bethnal Green. Short film, Broken, starring Eastenders' Michelle Collins and Evita's Peter Polycarpou, is one of the seven, and is sure to be a big hit.

Celebration of film

This Festival is a fantastic celebration of film and the East End. It gives people the chance to explore different types of film and shines the spot light on the wonderful diversity of filmmaking talent in Hackney and Tower Hamlets.

The festival is funded through a partnership between, Hackney Council and Tower Hamlets Council and Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and supported by 3 Mills Studios, Canary Wharf Group, Film London, LDA, Film London East and the ERDF, the festival is a cross borough project, offering exclusive film related experiences to the communities of east London.

Venues

Films will be screened at venues across east London, including Genesis, Mile End; Cineworld, West India Quay; Rio Dalston, and Rich Mix, Bethnal Green.
