Mayor Jules Pipe and Councillor Nargis Khan at London Fields Lido

London Fields Lido

Work to re-open London Fields Lido, which has been closed for nearly two decades, began last week. The £2.5 million Hackney Council funded re-build will see it re-open next year as  London’s only 50 metre heated outdoor pool. Hackney’s Mayor, Jules Pipe, and Cllr Nargis Khan, who holds the leisure brief, joined construction workers for the start of building work.

Mayor Pipe said: “Like all big projects, the new Lido has been months in the planning stages and it is great to see the builders on site turning those plans into a reality.

“This is one of the most exciting things to happen in the area for a long time, and will attract visitors from all over the capital, as well as providing a fantastic facility for local people.”

The re-opening of the Lido will be a real boost for swimmers as well as those who enjoy a warm summer’s day by the pool. The project architects S&P have produced  a set of drawings to show residents how the new Lido will look. These will be displayed on boards at the site.
