All Hackney’s 57 council seats were up for grabs on May 2nd as the borough’s residents went to the polls for this year’s local elections. The Council elections, which take place every four years in London boroughs, saw Labour winning 44 seats, the Conservatives with nine, the Liberal Democrats with three, and one seat for the Green Party. The Labour Party’s majority on the Council is unchanged. The count for the Council seats and for Hackney’s elected Mayor took place at Hackney Town Hall on Friday 5th May, starting at 8am and finishing at 5pm.
The Council’s Chief Executive and Returning Officer Penny Thompson thanked all the Council’s elections staff as well as the political parties and agents for their help in making sure the election ran smoothly and in a spirit of ‘good humoured’ co-operation.
