WE ♥ HACKNEY!

Hackney’s Mayor Jules Pipe celebrated Valentine’s Day in style, with hundreds of local residents, as he unveiled the Council’s brand new civic pride campaign, ‘I ♥ Hackney’.
The Mayor said ‘This campaign is about celebrating everything that people love about Hackney, and about promoting civic pride and responsibility. The campaign posters convey the message that the Council is making Hackney cleaner, greener and safer, but that residents need to do their bit too.’
The start of the campaign was marked by an afternoon of family fun in the Town Hall Square, and residents came from all over the borough to join in the Valentine’s celebrations. Face painters, stilt-walkers, and a Kiss FM street team kept everyone entertained, while a rapping competition got all ages involved. People were also asked to pledge their love to Hackney by making promises to the borough, such as pledging to recycle more, or to stop dropping litter.
Local people were given the chance to meet the Mayor, as well as local police and fire fighters, learn more about Council services such as recycling, and take part in a range of consultations.
Mayor Pipe was delighted with the day’s success. ‘There was a fantastic atmosphere in the Town Hall Square. It was great to see so many people come along and wear their ‘I ♥ Hackney’ badges with so much pride.
The event in the Town Hall square ran side by side with a series of Council led crackdowns to make the borough cleaner, greener and safer, including graffiti clean-ups and action against rogue traders and underage knife sales.
