Severe Weather Conditions 8th February 2007

Due to the weather conditions today we suspended the refuse service to most areas of the borough including the collection of bulky waste/ furniture and recycling. We did however get a service onto most of the main roads clearing sacks, commercial and litter bins. The clearance of the main roads included the whole of Shoreditch and our part of the City.

From midday today we will resume clearing any waste which has come out during the morning across the borough and any commercial waste that may have been missed.

Our cleansing operatives have spent the morning gritting footpaths supported by the mobile teams.

Tonight the evening shift will operate as normal sweeping and clearing the main roads and high profile areas of the borough.

Overall on refuse we are a day behind, however we are planning to operate a full refuse service tomorrow provided there is no further snow fall and the thaw continues this afternoon. The problems will occur if as expected it freezes overnight as this will slow our recovery.

We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused residents but the severe weather conditions has caused these delays. Waste Services will be working to recover the situation over the next few days including the weekend.

Recycling

There will be no collections today due to the bad weather. The collection will be Saturday instead. Residents with a Friday collection will still have their collection tomorrow (pending weather conditions)
