What is the Scrutiny Survey?

Every year groups of Councillors carry out detailed investigations into issues of local concern. These Councillors are not part of the Council's Cabinet, so have been appointed to scrutiny panels.

The role of Scrutiny is to examine policies and services provided for local people in detail. The meetings are conducted in public and scrutiny panels make recommendations to the Mayor and Cabinet. Scrutiny councillors hear from service users, staff and experts in the field, learn about what other Councils are doing, and suggest changes or improvements. Recent investigations have included local health service budgets, management of Kings Crescent Estate, and improvements to public spaces.

To make sure Scrutiny councillors focus on what really matters to local people they need to hear about their concerns. That’s why they’re asking you to complete the survey. You can select your top three issues from a list made up of the main concerns expressed by residents in recent surveys, issues highlighted in the press, new areas of responsibility, and areas in which the Council knows it could be better performing.

The Scrutiny councillors will also be talking to Council staff, other Councillors and partner organisations in Team Hackney over the next two months about where they think a review could make a difference. Final decisions about their work for the next year will be made in March.
