Be Recreative

Be Recreative

On Saturday 2 June, a free, fun packed, family event will be held in London Fields as part of Recycle Now week.  Be Recreative is a joint effort between the recycling team and Hackney Council’s Green Champion network.

Building on the success of last year’s event, this year Be Recreative promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Kids can get busy making their own toys at the junk journeys stall, play on the bouncy castle and have their face painted in their favourite design. The recycling mascots will also be on hand to entertain and meet the younger recyclers.

There’s plenty to do on the day for adults as well, including making or customising a shopping bag, creating amazing meals from leftovers, and taking a look at green technologies. There will be hot organic food to purchase, or alternatively you can bring your own picnic!

Entertainment will be provided by Hackney children, who have been attending music, drama and dance workshops run jointly with the Hackney Empire. They will be performing their own music and dance routines, developed around environmental themes.

Hackney Green Champion Esther Schillinger said "It was great being involved in last year's Be ReCreative and this year there will be even more for everyone to get stuck into.  It's a fantastic way to, learn, have fun and make a difference to the environment at the same time."

Be Recreative will be held on 2 June from 11am to 5pm in London Fields, Hackney E8.
