Hackney in Bloom Competition

Green-fingered folk from across the borough are being invited to enter this year’s Hackney in Bloom competition.

The contest is open to people who tend all kinds of green spaces, with categories including educational gardens, pubs, business premises, container gardens and forgotten corners.

The judges are on the lookout for imagination, and display skills, with marks awarded for colour, condition, quality of layout and overall impact.

Cllr Nargis Khan, Cabinet Member for Community Services said: “I would like to encourage people to enter Hackney in Bloom. Not only does the competition recognise the gardening skills of individuals, but it also helps to make Hackney’s green spaces more pleasant, cleaner and greener for everyone to enjoy.”

This year, the Council also hopes to continue its success in the city-wide London in Bloom competition.

Hackney won a Silver award in 2006, and Bronze in 2005, for its imaginative use of flowers, shrubs, and displays of horticultural excellence.
