Grants for Sporting Futures

Cash is now available for groups, teams and individuals, to apply for to help develop and promote sport in Hackney. The year-long Sporting Futures programme wants to help young Hackney residents to take part in constructive, positive, sports activities, all of which can help keep people fit, entertained and improve social skills. Groups/clubs can apply for grants of up to £5,000, while individual members of a club, group or organisation can receive up to £250 (up to 75% of the cost) in help towards the cost of courses, qualifications or sports/physical activity training.

Boost for Healthy Lifestyles

More help is at hand to get Hackney in the best possible physical shape, thanks to the Healthy Lifestyles programme. This aims to encourage residents to lead healthier lives not only by raising awareness of the ways that people can get and keep in shape - and why they should - but also by providing opportunities to take part in physical activity.

Grants of up to £5,000 are available to:

Activities that engage one of the following target groups: young people (under 25’s), people with disabilities, older people, black and ethnic minorities, women and girls.

  • Programmes that are accessible e.g. where participants are charged for activities there must be a concessionary rate available.
  • Programmes that have an exit strategy or demonstrate how schemes will continue to be sustained.
  • Activity programmes that are based in Hackney and are a minimum of 10 weeks in duration.
  • Activity programmes that run outside of curriculum time.

The money for both of these programmes has come from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and is being distributed by the Hackney Sport and Physical Activity Forum, to support, develop and promote all kinds of sport and physical activity throughout the borough.
