Black History Month

Black History Month is coming

October will be Black History Month 2006, an important annual celebration of heritage, identity and pride. The three boroughs of Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets have joined forces again to bring you an exciting programme of events celebrating Black History Month across East London.

After more than 30 years, Black History Month continues to grow in size, scope and profile in recognition of the achievements and contributions made by the black and minority ethnic community. We are delighted to report that this national increase has been mirrored in East London, with over 130 events confirmed for October. These range from book discussions and films, domino games and football workshops to exhibitions and health awareness talks.

There’s plenty of music, dancing and food thrown in too! The variety and quality of events within this programme reflects the commitment, expertise and creativity of the numerous organisations and individuals taking part this year. We hope that residents from all sectors of the local community will engage with, enjoy and and diverse month of events.

Event booklets are available to download on the right.
