Education Partnerships
Education in Hackney is provided by the Learning Trust. All details of education services in Hackney can be accessed through the Learning Trust website.
The London Borough of Hackney maintains an Education Partnerships Division with responsibility for managing the contractual relationship with the Learning Trust and delivering the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. The work of both sections contributes to the ‘A Good Place to Grow up’ Community Strategy outcome by working with the Learning Trust and the Children and Young People's Partnership. As well as working to deliver better outcomes for children, the Division contributes to the Mayor’s aim of making sure Hackney is high performing and efficient, through performance management and financial scrutiny of the Learning Trust.
Education Client Team
The Client Team manages the 10 year contract between the Council and the Learning Trust which began on 1 August 2002. The Council has no responsibilities in respect of the day-to-day operational issues, inputs and processes of the Trust, but retains ultimate responsibility for delivering education in Hackney.
The Client Team is responsible for monitoring the Trust against key performance indicators (KPI) in the contract and working with the Trust to improve performance where KPI targets are not met.
Building Schools for the Future (BSF)
BSF is a national programme to bring all secondary schools and Special Educational Needs (SEN) secondary provision up to 21st century standards. With our private sector partner, mpb education, the Council will create a Local Education Partnership (LEP) to rebuild or remodel all maintained mainstream (including VA) and SEN secondary schools in Hackney by 2015.
Neil Macindoe is the BSF Programme Director and the programme is sponsored by Mayor Pipe and the Interim Chief Executive, Tim Shields. The BSF Project Board is chaired by Tim Shields and membership includes representatives from schools, the Trust, Partnerships for Schools (PfS) and Council members. It is also part of the BSF team’s remit to ensure the academies programme fits into a coherent secondary strategy. More on BSF
