Safer Neighbourhood Teams

Mayor Jules Pipe with the Safer Neighbourhood Teams in Hackney.

Hackney Strategic Partnership, chaired by Mayor Jules Pipe, has decided to fast-track the arrival of Safer Neighbourhood Teams in Hackney.

The £3.5 million cash injection by the Partnership means that teams of uniformed community bobbies on the beat will soon become a familiar sight in all of Hackney’s 19 Wards and each ward will have its own dedicated team. The teams will get to know the local residents who will be able to contact them directly to report crimes and share their concerns.

Mayor Pipe said: 'As far as I was concerned this couldn't happen quickly enough in Hackney. A consistent uniformed police presence in our communities will tackle crime as well as the fear of crime.” He added: “This will make a huge impact on our residents' lives. That’s why the partnership is providing the money to make it happen more quickly. ” The Mayor described the move as 'a revolution in community policing.'  “Every resident will have the name and mobile phone number of their local safer neighbourhood officers. They will have a direct line to report crime and suspicious behaviour.”

Hackney police Borough Commander, Simon Pountain, said that the implementation of Safer Neighbourhood Teams demonstrated how the borough’s strategic partners share the priority to reduce crime and disorder in our borough.

"I’m convinced that this early roll out will have a significant impact not only on crime reduction but in all other areas of community safety as well."
