Now in their seventh year, the Hackney Sports Awards recognise the achievements of the borough's sporting talent who have participated at local, county or national levels in various events over the past year.
If you'd like to nominate somebody for an award in 2012, please complete our online nomination form.

The 2011 awards
Hackney's sports men and women were honoured at the Hackney Sports Awards 2011 on Wednesday 2 November at the Hackney Empire.
Comedian Kat B compered the night, and special guests - Former European, Commonwealth and British High Jumper Dalton Grant presented the awards along with various high dignituries from the council.
Over 500 people enjoyed the seventeen awards and entertainment came from local talent in the form of Avante Gard Dance Group and Holly Watson. In addition to this there was the World Record holder of the Most Keepie Uppies, Dan Magness who astounded the audience with his football freestyling.
An added bonus this year was the announcement that along with this years Youth Sports Fund recipients, and the London Youth Games medallists, all the winners on the night would be receiving an Olympic ticket to enjoy the worlds elite in action in Stratford 2012.

2011 Award Winners
The 2011 awards and winners are listed below.
Outstanding Contribution to the London Youth Games: Shauna St Phillip
Shauna, despite her disability, participated for four teams across two sports and helped Hackney finish in the top ten for all four competitions. She competed in the disability girls football team and only lost in the quarter finals; along with this she competed in both the indoor rowing competitions and came away with a team gold and an individual gold medal.
Outstanding Team Contribution to the London Youth Games: Hackney Youth Games Kayak Slalom Team
The team showed amazing improvement from the previous year (with the same young people as members), going from 15th to 5th this year and finishing with two individual medals in the girls events. The only marginally missed out in the senior boys event. They were true ambassadors for Hackney with their display of true grit and determination in tough winds on the Thames.
The London Youth Games Challenge Award: Cardinal Pole Secondary School
Cardinale Pole Secondary School had the greatest participation in the London Youth Games 2011.
Primary Schools Personal Best Girls Individual Award
Sade Okonta-Warison from Our Lady's St Joseph Primary School
Primary Schools Personal Best Boys Individual Award
Naheem Monir from Holmleigh Primary School
Primary Schools Personal Best Award: St Matthias School
This school attended the most School Sports Partnership events and competitions in 2010/11.
New Age Games Participation Award : Nicole Foncha
Nicole has been nominated by 3 instructors for the enthusiasm and effort that she shows in all of her activities. She is determined and attends over 6 hours of activities each week. She has been an inspiration, just knuckling down and getting on with it; she never moans and always gives 100% - a true example of what can be achieved if you put your mind to it.
Runners up: Andy Tidman and Joyce Fagon.
Young Volunteer Award: Thea Coida
Thea is a young person who has completed over 100 hours of voluntary hours at the Lea Rowing Club, working across all age groups and abilities. She does all of this while training hard herself!
The Runner up was Eniola Adelin from The Urswick School.
Voluntary Services to Sport and Physical Activity Award - Takeshi Bailey
Takshi Bailey won this award for his voluntary work at the Wilton Estate Youth Club. Takashi runs a club delivering various sports opportunities to engage the young people on the estate. Through his work he is not only a coach to these young people but a role model and mentor. He has inspired a lot of young people from this area of Hackney using only a shoe string budget and a lot of enthusiasm.
Runners Up: Chris Skinner, Dick Millard, Kutatana Tunga, Nana Badu, Nicole Van Staeyen, Pete Blackwell and Suzanne Keatley.
Inclusion Award, sponsored by GLL: Sharon Jones Barnes
Sharon - an international wheelchair badminton player herself - has been instrumental in establishing a Mixed-Ability Badminton Club within Hackney. As well as delivering coaching across the borough in various projects to educate young people and increase participation in badminton, she has been involved in working with ex-pat soldiers who have been wounded in war.
Club of the Year Award
Stoke Newington Cricket Club
Under 11 Team of The Year
The Hackney Mini Tennis Team. The team finished 2nd in East London and 3rd in London at the Mini Games Tennis Competition.
Under 18 Team of The Year - Cardinal Pole Weightlifting Team
Won the London Youth Games competition for the second year running and accrued 16 medals across regional and National Competitions.
Coach of the Year: George Manners, Cardinal Pole Weightlifting Club
George coaches the Cardinal Pole Weightlifting team. This year his lifters finished 1st in the London Youth Games for the 2nd consecutive year and accrued 16 medals across both National and regional competitions.
The Mayor's Award for Services to Sport in Hackney: John Larter
For his unwaivering commitment and work to the engagement of young people of Hackney through the medium of football.
Under 13 Sports Person of the Year: Lauryn John Baptiste
Lauryn is currently ranked 2nd nationally for tennis in the under 12 age group and has represented club, county and country with much success, one of which being a win in France in the doubles.
The Under 21 Sports Person of the Year: Kim Pham
As a junior Kim has won the senior British Weightlifting Championships, 2nd in the British College and Universities Championships and for the second consecutive year she was part of the winning team at the London Youth Games.
2nd Place: Tao Geoghegan - Cycling; 3rd Place: Alex Peters - Cycling.
