Council finances

Statement of accounts

Each year the Council produces a statement of accounts. This provides information about costs and income of the Council’s services for the financial year and liabilities and assets at the year end.

Any person interested in the statement of accounts has the opportunity to inspect the same over a period of 20 working days, set each year in accordance with the Accounts and Audit Regulations 2003. Notice of the public inspection period is given in the local press each year and is also available on the public inspection notice page.

Closure of audit notice

Following the annual audit of the accounts a closure of audit notice is published.

Annual audit letter

An annual audit letter is issued each year by the Audit Commission, the Council’s independent external auditors. The annual audit letter covers the work carried out by auditors since the previous annual audit letter was issued. It communicates to the Council and key external stakeholders, including members of the public, the key issues arising from auditors’ work, which auditors consider should be brought to the attention of members.
