Stoke Newington Reservoirs conservation area was designated in 1986, and includes the course of the New River from the Borough boundary on Green Lanes to the east reservoir, and both the east and the west reservoirs, together with the adjoining filter beds on the west side of Green Lanes.
A number of listed buildings are included such as the former ‘castle’ pumping station. The area is of outstanding character, unique to Hackney, and is of great historical importance, relating to the water supply of North London since the seventeenth century.
